The evolutions of portable computers aka laptops is staggering, to say the least. From fitting a large desktop power into your backpack (Dulmont Magnum) to becoming featherweight with the latest Nvidia desktop GPU running inside, the laptops have come a long way.
However, the laptop manufacturers are pushing the technology a notch higher with the introduction of foldable laptops.
Leading the way, it is Lenovo that has taken the first step into the world of foldable laptops. Lenovo unveiled a preview and demo of the world’s first foldable laptop back in May 2019.
Now if you are in the market for the best foldable laptop or simply curious about the future of laptop technology, here is what we know about the upcoming foldable laptops so far.
Here is the best foldable laptop on the market
Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Fold
As mentioned earlier, Lenovo has unveiled a working prototype of the world’s first foldable Laptop in May 2019. According to Lenovo, the laptop is made for highly mobile, tech-savvy professionals looking for compact-sized powerhouses to get their work done on the go.
The premium foldable laptop is reported to join the Thinkpad X1 family without any compromises in productivity and reliability.
The specifications
About the specification, nothing much is known except that the laptop will sport a 13.3 inch 2K OLED display that is made in collaboration with LG Display. The display is capable of folding half by reducing the laptop width by 50 percent.
The ThinkPad foldable laptop is also said to pack the latest Intel processors and the Windows OS will keep the lights on. The functional prototype unveiled by Lenovo seems to have responded fine to the inputs.
The biggest advantage of a foldable laptop is the compact form factor it offers. You can fold the laptop and use it as a book with display (provided that the company offers software for it) or simply unfold it use it for watching multi-media content.
On the flip side, the working prototype still does not inspire confidence with its folding mechanism. However, we expect Lenovo to make it better by the time they are ready to launch it. Which is expected to be somewhere in 2021.
On the accessory front, this laptop will come with a built-in kickstand that lets you prop up the display on a table to use with the included wireless keyboard and trackpad.

The folding tech is still a long way to go before it can be called reliable. As of now, only a few smartphone manufacturers are working on a foldable smartphone. But, like everything we expect the technology to improve over time and become reliable.
To answer more questions, we probably need to wait till 2020 to see the first production version of the foldable computer and hopefully, we will have more than one foldable laptop to compare with each other.
